Will compare the use of instant messaging software (a.k.a. IM software) to web-based chat software (e.g., Tutor.com, OCLC's QuestionPoint, Docutek's VRL). Many libraries have begun to drop their expensive chat software in favor of IM software; others are trying to use both IM and web-based chat at the same time. This meeting will examine the pros and cons of all three options (IM only, chat software only, IM and chat software together).
